With great access to both Northern Virginia and DC, Ballston is a terrific place to live and hang out
Though Ballston is home to unique condo living, tall buildings and offices, especially along Fairfax Drive, it also features rowhouses and single family homes with old school neighborhood style and character. Once an immense suburban sprawl, there is a fair amount of redevelopment. The land’s value has increased due to its convenient Metro proximity. In this case, the mix of old and new adds to Ballston’s charm.
Here are a few reasons to head out to Ballston:
- Every May, residents and guests of Ballston celebrate the Taste of Arlington, an annual Ballston street fair with fabulous food. This is an annual tradition, so mark your calendars now!
- What was previously the Ballston Mall, the Ballston Quarter is opening soon and brings a huge variety of new restaurants, stores, and office space. “Ballston Quarter is a true urban village filled with people who want to live where they also work and play—people who want to live life to the fullest.”
- Ballston quarter is also an entertainment hit! Highlights include Bar Taco, The Local Oyster, Cucina Al Volo, and so many more! It has a lovely selection of stores and Regal Cinemas Movie Theater; plus, it is home to the Kettler Capitals Iceplex (the Caps training facility) where you can skate, play hockey, or play broomball throughout the week.
- Keep an eye out for the Arts and Crafts Market (second Saturday of the month starting in May) and the Farmers Market (every Thursday from 3-7 starting in May). The Farmer’s Market is a sponsor of the FRESHFARM Share program. FRESHFARMS curates a weekly selection of fresh produce for subscribers to pick up during market hours. “This is a great option for busy families and urban professionals with limited time, and takes the guesswork out of shopping at a farmers market. Each week, you’ll get a bag of the freshest seasonal produce along with recipe ideas, an introduction to local farmers and producers, and a reason to get creative in the kitchen!”
