We’re thankful for the Fairfax Turkey Trot in Mantua!

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. My family and I love to begin our Thanksgiving celebrations by running the Fairfax Turkey Trot benefitting Britepaths. Besides the tradition of walking or running this beautiful, 4-mile course throughout the Mantua neighborhood, it simply doesn’t feel like Thanksgiving unless I’ve run a race that morning to earn those extra calories coming later in the day!
Why the Fairfax Turkey Trot in Mantua?
This year’s 6th Annual Fairfax Turkey Trot will be held on Thanksgiving day at 9am. What I really love about this event is that it is community based and run entirely by volunteers. Proceeds from the Fairfax Turkey Trot will be donated, as always, to Britepaths (formerly Our Daily Bread).
Britepath’s mission: “For more than 30 years, Britepaths has provided help and hope to struggling residents in the Fairfax County area. Britepaths is a dedicated and well known leader in developing sustainable solutions meeting the challenges of low-income working families through emergency assistance, financial literacy and one-on-one mentoring.”
If you have never run a Turkey Trot, I encourage you to get out there and feel the love. Between the Thursday morning coffee surge and excitement of the crowd, your holiday will begin with energy and cheer. It’s easy to feel grateful when you’re within your community of friends and neighbors. Plus, it’s just plain fun!
Some may feel underprepared for a Turkey Trot, wishing for more time to get race ready. To that I reply “Just show up–you’ll be thankful you did!” Remember: walking is always an option! At the very least, your experience could serve as a springboard to future fitness goals. I truly believe that the most important factor to any physical breakthrough is being thankful in spirit.
Above all, I hope your Thanksgiving is filled with gratitude, good memories, and a delicious meal as your reward for running the Turkey Trot! All the fun begins and ends at Mantua Swimming Pool, 9330 Pentland Place, Fairfax, VA 22031. Be sure to say HI if you see me and my family out on the course!
