The Mosaic District of Fairfax is home to one of the coolest new taco houses around: bartaco. Our team loves going to bartaco in the Mosaic District for happy hour!
bartaco is known for its interpretation of Mexican street tacos, but they also serve freshly prepared rice bowls, delicious sides (the corn off the cob with lime and cotija cheese is to die for), and hand-made drinks. My favorite thing to eat there is the mojo pork carnitas rice bowl. You can really taste the tangy citrus marinade and the pork loaded with authentic spices. So flavorful!
If you order tacos I recommend getting 3. The serving size is smaller than you may be used to, but the favors are complex and bright. If you go at lunch, try their special of three tacos (your choice) and a delicious salad. They have an array of vegetarian options, two of which are my favorites: roasted cauliflower and falafel. The shrimp in the crispy rock shrimp tacos are plump and sweet. You will also find traditional flavors like spicy chorizo, chicken pastor and baja fish, and also some non-traditional offerings like pork belly, duck, and tuna. Wash down your dish with a cocktail or a house-made soda like the ginger-grapefruit.
The casual space, relaxed pace, and friendly service at bartaco is as great as their food. The staff want you to feel like you’re taking a break from the beach and hanging out among friends. The restaurant has a nice open feel but with distinct sections.
We are impressed with the quality of the food and drinks at bartaco Mosaic District. We will definitely return for the tasty menu offerings and welcoming, relaxed beach vibe.
