Looking to get creative at Board and Brush?
Looking for a fun way to decompress? Channel you inner creative side with a visit to Board & Brush in Fairfax. Even us non-artists can create a sign that is beautiful and unique. The best part is that all of the tools and materials are organized and ready to go, and expert help is there if you need it.
The steps are easy: go online and find a date that works for you on their event calendar or book a private event at your convenience. Invite your friends to pick a design and sign up for the event. Board & Brush provides wine and beer and all needed materials and supplies. The event last about 3 hours and you will walk out with a beautiful, custom sign for display in your home or the perfect gift.

There are many designs to choose from, so allow time to browse the collection when you book. You can add your family name to many of the designs, or even choose a design where your name is the centerpiece. You have to select a design when you book your spot so that your stencil is ready to go when you arrive.
The first hands-on step is to sand the edges of your board. While you’re sanding, you will be presented with a palette of stains to apply to your board. Everyone starts with the same pine board, but then it’s up to you! After choosing your stain you can also top it with a wash or dry-brush treatment. I chose a dark walnut stain and a dry-brush effect.
Once the board looks the way you want with the stain, it’s stencil time! This was the trickiest part of the process, as the thin stencils rip easily. Fortunately, we learned how to move slowly and apply the stencil perfectly.
With the stencil in place, it’s time to paint. There are plenty of colors to choose from. In fact, I checked out five different reds before I found the one I liked best.
Board & Brush is a great option for birthday parties, ladies night outs, scouting events, fundraisers and so much more. Although many of the events at Board and Brush are for those 16 and up, they do offer kid friendly dates and designs. My 10 year old daughter absolutely loved it and can’t wait until she is old enough to work there!
On a recent ladies night, a friend of mine made a beautiful gift for an upcoming wedding she was attending. Several people made signs for their front porches, some made custom planters, shelves, and even a growth chart for a toddler’s bedroom.
The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Board and Brush is located at 11215 Lee Hwy, Suite J, Fairfax, VA. I highly recommend planning a trip there soon!
